On May 13th Bartók Rádió’s annual Awards Ceremony for Hungary’s classical and jazz music world presented golden statues to eleven winners. The live broadcast from the Budapest Music Center featured performances by several of the winners, as well as a few notable Hungarian musicians. Video monitors on both sides of the audience provided interviews and commentaries about the winners.

Not surprisingly, most prominent on the list was the eminent opera singer Éva Marton, who accepted her award for Lifetime Achievement as both a performer and teacher. Each winner was given microphone time to express their thoughts and appreciation.

The categories and the winners:

Lifetime Achievement Award – opera singer Éva Marton, as performer and teacher (“After my long career on the opera stage, I have been living in Budapest for 25 years, focusing on teaching. I have trained two generations of musicians and I am very proud of this Award.”)
